Description: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El – Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Athens, where they signed a strategic partnership agreement highlighting several areas of cooperation between Greece and Egypt. The leaders reaffirmed the strategic alignment on projects such as energy, defense, political, economic and cultural ties. Sisi and Mitsotakis announced the establishment of a large project that was comprised of establishing a 3,000 MW undersea cable that would stretch across the Mediterranean and allow the flow of electricity in Europe through energy sources from North Africa. Both leaders also reaffirmed their joint position on the Arab plan for resolving the war between Israel and Hamas and pledged further cooperation in various sectors.
Impact: Greece as one of the most important geostrategic countries for EU has commenced acquiring diplomatic capital to facilitate the continents migration towards sustainable energy sources. Egypt through the strategic partnerships aims at closer cooperation with larger economies within the EU, as the country has long lasting domestic economy issues and considerable problems with migration which is widespread across the MEditeranean. Europe would continue to leverage Greece’s advantageous geostrategic position through a wide variety of strategic alliances with countries from Nort Africa in order to tackle key issues such as migration and energy cooperation. Egypt has developed a comprehensive geostrategic portfolio being directly involved in the war in Gaza and would aim at bolstering partnerships with European countries to boost it’s international integrity and strengthen the domestic economic situation.
