Ukraine: Russian Rearmament Faster than Initially Predicted

By January 20, 2025No Comments

Description: Germany’s point person on the war in Ukraine Major General Christian Freuding had stated that Russia is rearming itself much faster than it has been initially prognosed with Europe as their main potential target. Germany’s EUR 2.5 billion aid package for Ukraine is still disputable as Chancellor Olaf Scholz waits for government tax easement. Russia’s economy is totally reoriented towards fueling their war machine as they have received substantial military support from Iran, North Korea and China. The Russian ground offensive comes at a time where possible peace negotiations are being discussed with Donald Trump assuming the office of the President in the US. Russia would seek to expand their ground offensive before any potential negotiations take place so it can leverage its position to make limited concessions in a hypothetical peace agreement.

Impact: Europe’s political and military discontinuance could enable further Russian offensive in achieving their military goal in Ukraine. EU and NATO allies should focus on mutual coordination in several socio – economic fields and especially enhanced coordination on the Ukraine question. Russia has adopted every possible asset it has, from allied countries to resources and the conduction of special operations activities within the European continent which has significantly subdued Europe and NATO’s efforts in support of Ukraine. Expeditive and resolute action is necessary from the allied forces since the end of the war in Ukraine depends solely on a European unified front, which at this point is unlikely attainable.
